Well, in Bill's post he did say that the areas around Veigar were growing trees that looked like ones from the path. And whenever I do get a piece of the bark off Azoth bubbles from the other bark and reforms it.
I'm slightly tempted to stick my arm in the forge and see what happens.

First of all, let's be positive: the fact you don't know what you've done indicates there aren't many if any telltale signs as to what's happened means it probably wasn't that bad. Otherwise you'd have heard or seen something by now.
